Personalised DNA testing and Nutrition Assessment

Nutrigenomics is a new scientific discipline that uses modern genomics technology to study the relationship between genes, nutrition and health. It is known that some people respond differently from others to certain foods. For example, some individuals have a gene that means their body is slow to breakdown caffeine in the body, meaning caffeine affects them more than other people. This may also mean that they are at a higher risk of heart disease. Nutrigenomics allows us to understand how our genes affect the way we respond to the foods, beverages and supplements we consume. NutrigenomixTM is a start-up biotechnology company that has developed a panel of 7 genetic tests to enable dietitians to provide personalized nutrition recommendations based on your DNA. Synergy now provides this simple test based on cutting edge research. In an initial appointment, our dietitian will explain the tests, discuss any specific nutrition related issues and collect a saliva sample to be sent for testing at the Nutrigenomix laboratory.

In 4 to 6 weeks time, a follow-up appointment is scheduled to review the results of the test, discuss recommendations and develop a dietary plan to achieve optimum health.

NutrigenomixTM tests for genes that affect how your body responds to:

      • Vitamin C
      • Folate
      • Wholegrains and low GI foods
      • Omega 3s
      • Saturated fats
      • Sodium (salt)
      • Caffeine
      • Armed with this information, our dietitian can help you to eat according to your genetic profile and enable you to achieve your goals of improved health and wellness.
